President and CEO

Shinji Tanaka has served as President and Chief Executive Officer since August 2020. Shinji joined CSI in January 2020 as the Executive Vice President of Engineering and Continuous Improvement coming from JFE Steel in Japan, one of CSI’s two shareholding companies, where he has worked since 1989. Prior to joining CSI, he served as Staff General Manager of the Overseas Business Planning Department at JFE Steel, and prior to that served as General Manager of the Plant Engineering Department in Fukuyama Works. Shinji has also served as a Member of the Board of Directors of CSI. From 2001 to 2004, Shinji worked at CSI and served as the Manager of Hot Strip Mill Maintenance. Shinji-san graduated from Osaka University with a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.


Ricardo Bernardes has served as Executive Vice President, Commercial since January 2010. From 2003 to 2009, he served as Chief Financial Officer at California Steel Industries. From 1995 to 2003, he worked at RBS Group (Brazil), a regional multimedia company, most recently as the Executive Director of Business Development. He also served as Chief Financial Officer of the RBS Broadcasting Division, and in other positions of financial and strategic business responsibilities. From 1989 to 1995 he worked at Booz Allen and Hamilton Brazil, an international management and technology consulting firm, where he worked primarily with steel companies in Latin America, and also in business segments such as aerospace, equipment manufacture and automotive. His previous work experience also includes positions in the Production Planning and Cost Analysis departments of Siderurgica Riograndense (a steel mill of Gerdau Group) in Brazil. Mr. Bernardes graduated from Pontificia Universidade Católica do Rio Grande do Sul, with a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, and from University of California, Los Angeles, with a Master's Degree in Business Administration, Finance.


Scott Starr has served as Executive Vice President, Operations since August 2016. He joined CSI in 1992, where he has served as General Manager, Operations and Manager, Cold Rolling & Galvanizing Operations, in addition to positions in the metallurgical quality and operations departments. Mr. Starr graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a Bachelor of Science degree in Metallurgical Engineering and from the University of California, Irvine with a Master's Degree in Business Administration.

Finance and Administration

Fernando Barros joined CSI in November 2019 as Executive Vice President, Finance and Administration from Vale S.A. in Rio de Janeiro, one of CSI's two shareholding companies, where he has worked since 2003. He most recently served as Vale’s General Manager of Investor Relations. Prior to joining the Investor Relations Department, Fernando worked in Vale’s Budget and Performance Department covering the Iron Ore, Coal and Logistics business segments. He has also worked as the General Manager of tugboat operations for six different facilities spread throughout Brazil, as Vale’s Shipping Market Intelligence General Manager and as the Administrative and Finance Manager at Docenave, the shipping company subsidiary of Vale. Fernando graduated from the Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro with a Bachelor’s degree in Electronic Engineering and a Master’s degree in Computer Systems Networking and Telecommunications. He also holds an MBA in Marketing from Pontíficia Universidade Católica do Rio de Janeiro and an MBA from Fundação Dom Cabral.
